Arthur C. Clarke

Arthur C. Clarke was born in Minehead, Somerset, England, on December 16, 1917. He served in the Royal Air Force as a radar specialist during World War II. During this time, he started to sell science fiction stories to magazines. After the war, he acquired a degree in mathematics and physics, from Kings' College, England. In the October of 1945, he published a paper, in Wireless World, titled "Can Rocket Stations Give Worldwide Radio Coverage?" which proposed the idea for geostationary satellites, and how they could be used as communications relays. He worked as the Assistant Editor for the magazine, Science Abstracts, for a short period in time, after which he became a full time writer in 1951. In 1956, he moved to Colombo, Sri Lanka, where he currently lives.
